The Rise of Kharijites

The Kharijites first appeared in the days of the Prophet () and their ideas gained momentum during the caliphate of Uthman until they emerged as a full-fledged and organized group during the caliphate of our master Ali. God Most High alluded to the Kharijites in the Qura’n and there are many Hadith reports that explain their signs, beliefs, doctrines and practices. In general, the Kharijites committed acts of terrorism and carried out atrocities in the name of Islam. Due to their extreme and specious religious arguments, they would declare it permissible to shed the blood of the Muslims.

Many disruptions erupted in the Ummah after the passing of the Prophet () including false claims to prophet-hood, apostasy, refusal to pay Zakat and rejection of some basic teachings of the Islam. Those who embraced the beliefs of the Kharijites promoted their wrapped understanding, exploited these disruptions and began organizing themselves. Those who actively hatched the conspiracy against Uthman, and ultimately killed him in the final days of his rule, were composed of the people who held the extremist beliefs of Kharijites. The most prominent of them was name Abd Allah b. Saba. This was the first time an extremist and terrorist group challenged the authority of the Islamic state.

Practically, the Kharijites surfaced in the caliphate of the fourth caliph Ali. However, the Prophet () had given them the title Kharijites well before that, saying: “They shall exit from the religion just as an arrow exits from a hunted game.” When we look critically at the history of the Kharijites, we see that they came out as a violent movement in Ali’s name. They were against dialogue and peaceful settlement of the disputes and raised the slogan la hukma illa li-llah-i arguing,

تُحَکَّموُنَ فِی اَمْرِ اللہ الرَّجَالَ؟ لَا حُکْمَ الَّا للہِ!

“Do you seek judgment from men in that which is God’s command? There is no judgment but for God.”

The Kharijites initiated an armed rebellion against Ali and based themselves in Harura, located on the Iraqi border. They accused him of polytheism and blameworthy innovations and declared him a disbeliever and rebelled against him. They formed a group at Harura, appointed one of them as caliph, and, setting up a state within a state, they challenged the writ of the government. They established a new Caliphate, under a new leader and rebelled against the Caliphate of Ali. They would meticulously perform tahajjud, five obligatory prayers, and fast and do all acts of worship most rigidly, declaring themselves the only staunch Muslims. They believed that the one who committed a major sin was disbeliever, that is, telling a lie is an act of disbelief. The Kharijites firmly believed that the perpetrator of a mortal sin straight away turned one into a disbeliever. This was the first ever group of extremists and terrorists who kick-started radicalism and militancy, and launched armed aggression against Muslims. That is how the Umma called them by the title ‘Kharijites’ – those who zoomed out of faith. The Companions led by the Caliph Ali took up arms and fought against them. These were Khairjites in a historical perspective.

A Prophecy about ISIS and their Ilks

Nu’aym b. Hammad records in his Kitab al-Fitan (The Book of Tribulations):

“It is related on the authority of ‘Ali (may Allah ennoble his countenance): ‘When you see the black flags, remain where you are and do not move your hands or your feet (It’s a common phrase meaning: “Stay put and don’t get involved in the fighting”). Thereafter there shall appear a feeble folk to whom no concern is given. Their hearts will be like fragments of iron. They are the representatives of the State (Ashab al-Dawla). They will fulfill neither covenant nor agreement. They will invite to the truth, though they are not from its people. Their names will be agnomens [i.e., Abu So-and-so], and their ascriptions will be to villages. Their hair will be long like that of women. [They shall remain so] till they differ among themselves, and then Allah will bring forth the truth from whomever He wills.’”

Black flags: ISIS use black flags.
Feeble: They are newcomers to the fight in Syria and relative nobodies till they took swathes of land that was taken by other fighters.
Hearts like fragments of iron: Watch any of their videos and judge for yourself.
Ashab al-Dawla: They call themselves, the Dawla.
Breaking agreements: They broke agreements and refused Shariah arbitration.
Invite to the truth, though not from its people: Yes, they’re Khawarij (Separatists).
Their names will be agnomens: Of course, they’re a bunch of Abu Fulans.
Their ascriptions will be to villages: Villages here could be read as cities; most of them are al-Iraqi, al-Misri, al-Maghribi, al-Tunisi, etc.
Long hair: See Abu Ibrahim and the other assorted characters.

Islam is Peace

By TAHIR BIJLI

‘Islam is the most peaceful religion’ and ‘All Muslims are Terrorists’ are two most famous slogans in the world. How can a person or thing be both? We need to use our brain here!! It is as if claiming that I’m a Pope (Christian Cleric) and at the same time I’m a terror causing person. Isn’t that idiotic?

Let’s see, what Muslims say is right or wrong from nowhere else than their own books i.e The Quran, and the Hadith.

What Quran says;

2:83: Treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people.

36:58: Peace shall be the word conveyed to them from their Merciful Lord.

3:134: Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men; for Allah loves those who do good.

6:151: be kind to your parents, not to kill your children making the excuse of inability to support them - We provide sustenance for you and for them - not to commit shameful deeds whether open or secret, not to kill any soul forbidden by Allah except for the requirements of justice. These are the things which He enjoined you so that you may learn wisdom.

6:152: Don’t to go near the property of an orphan except in the best way (to improve it). Until he attains maturity, give full measure and just weight - We never charge a soul with more than it can bear. Whenever you speak, be just, even if it affects your own relatives.

O dear readers, this is what the Quran talks about, not the radical part of it which the brutal people convey us. After Quran, the word of Allah, Muslims believe in Hadith which are the Sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings upon Him).

Now let’s have a look on some of the narrations of his Companions what Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings upon Him) have taught.

Abu Ad-Darda' RA narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

Shall I not inform you of what is more virtuous than the rank of fasting, Salat, and charity?" They said: "But of course!" He said: "Making peace between each other. For indeed spoiling relations with each other is the Haliqah. –Tirmidhi

Narrated Sayda ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):

The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "The most hated person in the sight of Allah is the most quarrelsome person.” –Bukhari

Narrated Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqba (may Allah be pleased with her) that she heard Allah’s Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) saying:

He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar.” –Bukhari

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him)  reported:

A man came to the Prophet and he said, “Advise me.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not get angry.” The man repeated his request and the Prophet said, “Do not get angry”. –Bukhari

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “You will not enter Paradise until you believe and you will not believe until you love each other. Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves.–Muslim

Qais ibn Sa’d reported:

A funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he stood up. It was said to him, “It is a Jew.” The Prophet said, “Was he not a soul (a human being)?” –Bukhari & Muslim

Therefore after going through all above mentioned verses of Quran and Ahadith, we come to know what real Islam is. No doubt it is nothing but Peace! And now for the false propaganda against Islam that Muslims are killers/Terrorists, this is what Quran says about killing

“...if anyone slew a person unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land it would be as if he slew the whole mankind: and if anyone saved a life it would be as if he saved the life of the whole mankind...” Quran 5:32

I conclude here by remarking, Islam is a Peaceful religion which teaches love for fellow beings and having a merciful character which takes you to the Paradise and it strongly condemns negativity such as anger, hate, killing, suicide etc.
